Welcome to SwingFest 2019!
Hosted annually by the Canadian War Museum, this year we feature a Valentine’s theme, and for the first time, we are an official Winterlude event! With live music from Peter Liu and the Pollcats, and talented swing dance teachers and dance performers from Side Street Swing and across Ottawa, this evening will be an immersive experience to everything swing, authentic to the 1920's to the 1940's, when attending dances with live bands was one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Love, connection, and the magic of swing all helped people to cope through troubled times.
SwingFest returns to the spacious and beautiful Lebreton Gallery, and we received rave reviews of last year's event. We also heard your suggestions about how to improve our event, so this year we will feature expanded food and beverage options, enhanced photo booth station, an improved dance floor, and a live video feed on the big screen for lessons, performances, and demos! The annual War Museum Swingfest is held in the spirit of diversity and inclusion, welcoming people of all backgrounds and abilities.
The evening's program begins with an introductory Lindy Hop lesson, followed by swing social dancing, group performances, another great lesson, and demonstrations of different dance styles from this period. The Canadian War Museum helps to provide a unique space and setting that will help guests travel back in time to the Swing Era, with fascinating background photos from the period that will be projected onstage. Attendees are encouraged to come in vintage swing era attire to add an extra dimension of fun. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and participants are encouraged to bring their own refillable bottles of water.
Admission is $20 ($15 students, seniors, veterans, & museum members), which includes all dance lessons. Advance tickets are available online at: warmuseum.ca/event/swingfest
Tickets are anticipated to sell quickly, so it’s recommended to book early to avoid disappointment.
